I lived in Colombia for five years where I learned Spanish and kindness, returned to the US to get my MFA in Fiction from Antioch University in Los Angeles, and now work in New York as a multi-genre writer and editor. That said, you may have a blindspot that an editor needs to talk to you about, and remaining open to that possibility will strengthen you as a creative person.
Editors will point you in every direction, and it is up to you as the writer to stay your path and find the editor who shows you how to get further in the direction you intend to go. With each edit and note I provide, it is your responsibility to consult your intuition to decide which edits to integrate and which to override. Our conversations in between each draft will be vital to the process.Īs the writer, you have the final say. My final read will consider the piece in terms of reader enjoyment. My second read will focus on the message and structure of your work. My first glance at your work will analyze the writing on the sentence level, providing tough edits to strengthen the language itself.
